Aftercare
Remember! Your tattoo is not finished until it is totally healed. It is your responsibility to take care of your tattoo(s). Good hygiene and care will reduce the risk of infection, aid healing and help maintain the colours. Below is our recommend healing method to follow.
-
Aftercare Balm (ie. Dr. Pickles Original Formula)
Fragrance free soap (ie. Dr. Pickles Hemp Foam Wash)
Cling wrap
Microporous tape - optional
-
Keep the cling wrap applied by your artist for 2 hours.
after 2 hours, remove the cling wrap and wash the tattoo with lukewarm soapy water (Fragrance free soap) until plasma and excess ink is gone.
With clean hands gently pat the tattoo dry with paper towel or a clean hand towel, then leave to air-dry for a couple of minutes.
Once dry, apply aftercare balm gently rubbing until an even thin layer covers the tattoo.
Cover in fresh cling wrap & microporous tape (if necessary) to hold it in place.
Remove cling wrap the next morning
-
Repeat the process below for 10 days - 2 weeks.
Wash the tattoo with lukewarm soapy water (fragrance-free soap) each morning and evening.
Apply aftercare balm 2 times daily or when the tattoo looks dry (whichever is more often).
-
Avoid direct sunlight for a minimum of 2 weeks. Only once the tattoo has healed is it safe to apply sunscreen for protection against UV. It is important to protect your tattoo from the sun from now on, using a minimum of factor 50+
Avoid long soaks in the bath as hot water in contact with your skin will detach scabs if there is any, and can loosen the ink. This could lead to your tattoo looking patchy when it’s healed. Short showers are preferable for the first 2 weeks.
Avoid swimming, saunas and hot tubs etc. during healing process.
Avoid vigorous exercise, sports and going to the gym during the healing process, sweat may irritate your tattoo and lead to infection.
DO NOT pick or scratch the healing tattoo as it may remove ink.
